What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and why is it important?

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the practice of increasing your website’s visibility in search engines with the goal of ensuring your site ranks higher in search engine results across the web. Your uConnect platform is built already optimized for SEO and our team helps monitor general platform performance on your behalf while implementing best practices. With that said, your job is to focus on adding quality content to your platform to continually improve its SEO, so be sure to talk to your Marketing Team about other strategies.

Ultimately, improving SEO for your virtual career center platform is crucial for increasing visibility and attracting the right audience. Here are some recommendations we have to increase your SEO over time:

SEO Recommendations

Keyword Research:

  • Identify relevant keywords related to your work and how you use your uConnect platform. Consider keywords that are specific to your audience, demographics, location and institution type.

  • Use tools like Google Keyword Planner to find high-volume and low-competition keywords.

  • Incorporate keywords naturally into your website's content and headings. You will be doing a lot of this during your uConnect onboarding as you build out the content of your platform. However, it’s important to consider not going “overboard” with key-word stuffing. Your platform will do most of the work as long as it is well structured, which we provide guidance upon during initial onboarding and throughout your uConnect journey.

Quality Content:

  • Create high-quality, informative, and engaging content that addresses the needs of your target audience. Content created within your platform should be tagged and curated for each audience/community you serve.

  • Develop blog posts, videos, resources, etc., related to career advice, resume building, job interviews, and industry trends. Consider building the content specific to your audience, i.e., Business, Undergrad, Graduate, etc.

  • Regularly update content to reflect current information and trends in the job market. The more consistent and diverse your content, the better engagement you will see within your uConnect platform.

Optimized Meta Tags:

  • As mentioned earlier, meta tags are HTML tags that provide information about a webpage’s content to search engines and users. They play an important role in influencing how a website appears in search results and can impact click-through rate (CTR). With that said, you’ll want to ensure that each page on your uConnect platform has a unique and compelling meta title.

  • Include relevant keywords in meta tags while maintaining natural and user-friendly language.

  • Include Featured Images and descriptions in your content. The more information that you provide within each content type, the better your meta descriptions shall be.   • Your uConnect platform is inherently mobile responsive. However, building out content within Resources, Blogs, Communities and Pages allow users to leverage the WordPress-powered block editor tool.   • Fast-loading pages contribute to a positive user experience and can positively impact search rankings.

User Experience (UX):

  • Ensure a user-friendly interface and navigation to enhance the overall user experience.

  • Create clear and concise calls-to-action (CTAs) to guide visitors through the desired conversion paths.

Social Media Integration:

  • Share your content on relevant social media platforms to increase visibility and drive traffic. Consider repurposing your published content.

  • Encourage social sharing by incorporating social media sharing buttons on your content.

  • Links to your uConnect platform from other high-visibility, trustworthy sources (like your main institutional site and official university social accounts, if you’re not using career-specific social accounts, etc.) are also huge for boosting content.
