Important: you do not have the ability to edit any aspects of widgets, which includes widget titles, content, placement and design, so you must reach out to the uConnect support team here to make any adjustments to your widget settings.
A widget is a section on your uConnect platform that displays content. Each widget has its own settings that determine which content gets pulled in from a certain source, such as only featuring resources tagged to a certain content category like Resume Templates or only featuring events tagged to a certain community page.
Most of the time, you can tell if something is a widget on a page if it appears to be its own distinct section with definitive lines and borders around the content. Here is an example below; note the borders around the distinct widgets, which in this case include a Blogs widget, Events widget, and People widget:
Tip: Widgets can only feature one type of content at once, meaning a Blogs widget can ONLY feature blogs articles - no other content types.
What can be modified about widgets:
Layout:
Widgets also have two layout options: 1) vertical, or 2) horizontal, so consider these options when designing your pages. For example, below is an example of a People widget in both the vertical layout and horizontal layout:
Vertical Layout
Horizontal Layout
Troubleshooting Tip: If you are tagging content to a certain page but it is NOT appearing, it may be that 1) there is not a widget set up on your page yet, or 2) the tags you are using for your content do not match the current widget settings. Either way, please reach out to us via our widget form!
Titles:
We can modify the title of the widget to whatever you'd like, such as this People widget having the title "Connect with Alumni"
Placement
You may want to move widgets around on your page and change the order and we are able to move widgets to a different placement on a page or to another page completely. For example, we could switch the order of the Resources widget by placing the Videos widget above it:
Call-To-Action Buttons:
We can edit the text of the CTA buttons that are in the bottom-right corner of each widget
Types of Widgets:
There is a widget type for every content type in uConnect under the Publish tab, such as Blogs widgets, Resources widgets, Events widgets and so on. Here are all the possible widget types we can add on your platform:
Menu widget
When you want to take a new or existing menu live on a page, you will need us to activate a Menu widget for you and tell us where you want it to display.
This just applies to Community (Hero) navigation menus, such as this one in the screenshot below:
Blogs widget
Blogs are a popular widget type and they are one of the few that you can technically add to your Community pages by turning on the "Dynamic Feed" but please note, this only activates a vertical Blog widget - not a horizontal blog widget. Learn more about the Dynamic Feed setting!
Sponsorship ribbon widget
If you would like to feature certain employers on your platform, this is a great widget for this purpose! Please read this article to learn how to feature particular employers within this dynamic widget and to start the scrolling effect, make sure to designate at least 5 employers as sponsors; otherwise the logos will remain static.
Button widget
1. We can add Button widgets for you in the top right corner of your uConnect platform (header buttons) or on the right side panel area of your uConnect pages. Many of our partners use buttons for important call to actions, such as signing up for uConnect automated alert emails.
2. Fun fact: you can add your own buttons to pages by using the Block Editor functionality so learn more about the Block Editor here.
User widget
If you want to feature certain staff members on particular pages - from advisors, faculty, career coaches, or any colleague - we recommend using our Users widget, so you just have to ensure that they are added as a user under Manage>Users. You can also set their Advising Categories if their role supports certain career communities and this way, they will appear on their corresponding pages.
People widget
The People widget can appear quite different depending on if it is horizontal or vertical - see below - but it is helpful for featuring different type of people profiles, from students, alumni, employers, mentors, etc. You can manually publish People to appear in these widgets but often our partners integrate their mentor platforms, such as PeopleGrove, Graduway, or Firsthand, to import their People and have those automatically populate into their People widgets.
Vertical People widget
Horizonal People widget
Resource widget
Typically, a Resource widget is oriented horizontally to properly showcase all the necessary resources. Please note that the appears of your Resources in your Resource widget will vary depending on if you use Featured Images or Logos or both! Read this article to learn more.
Events widget
There are 3 layouts for an event widget: 1) horizontal, 2) vertical, and 3) overlaying the front page banner. You can toggle the Upcoming Events to appear over your front page banner in the Customize section as this article explains. You can manually publish Events to appear in these widgets but often our partners integrate their Career Management Systems, such as Handshake, Symplicity, or 12Twenty, to import their Events and have those automatically populate into their Events widgets.
Front Page Events Banner Widget
Vertical Events widget
Horizontal Events widget
Jobs widget
Below is an example of a vertically oriented Jobs widget. You can manually publish Jobs to appear in these widgets but often our partners integrate their Career Management Systems, such as Handshake, Symplicity, or 12Twenty, to import their jobs and have those automatically populate into their Job widgets.
Classes widget
You can manually publish Classes to appear in these widgets but often our partners integrate their learning modules, such as LinkedIn Learning, to import their Classes and have those automatically populate into their Classes widgets.
Organizations widget
This widget is used to feature both on-campus/student organizations and professional associations. You can manually publish Organizations to appear in these widgets but often our partners integrate their related tools, such as CampusGroups or Anthology, to import their Organizations and have those automatically populate into their Organizations widgets.
Experiences widget
Often, our partners use Experiences to showcase experiential opportunities such as study abroad, volunteering, fellowships, projects, and more. You can manually publish Experiences to appear in these widgets but often our partners pull from our External Content Library that contains Forage experiences.
Video widget
You can manually publish Videos to appear in these widgets but often our partners pull from our external content video library to populate their Videos widgets.
Labor Market Insights widget
If you have it activated on your uConnect platform, we can add as many LMI widgets as you like on various pages and even have the widgets pre-filtered to showcase certain occupations and industries. This is very helpful for career/industry based pages.
Outcomes Data Visualization widget
If you have it activated on your uConnect platform, we can add as many ODV widgets as you like on various pages and even have the widgets pre-filtered to showcase certain academic majors and programs. This is very helpful for college/department and career/industry based pages.
