What's a featured video?

Featured videos refer to the video content you choose to promote on your uConnect platform. Like your other content types, videos can be organized by content category and community tags, to ensure they reach the right visitors.

Videos are a great way to convey important alerts, instructional content, other career related information to your visitors in a familiar and easy-to-digest format. It's also a nice deviation from traditional text, and a more engaging way to deliver information!

How are videos presented on the uConnect platform?

Videos can be presented on your uConnect platform in three ways:

  • in a widget on any page of your platform (optional)

  • in the video library (default)

  • on a standalone page (default)

Video Widget

A video widget works like any other dynamic widget on your platform. It intelligently pulls in video content to be displayed on any community or custom page based on the filters you set for that widget. By default, when a widget is placed on a community page, it pulls in any video tagged to that community. When placed on a custom page, the widget can be set to pull in videos associated with any community tag or category you choose.

By default, videos presented within this widget are ordered by when they were added or updated, with those adjusted most recently appearing first. You can override this by setting a specific order number to a video, with higher numbers appearing first.

Take a look at a sample video widget below.

Video Library

The video library is a default page on your platform that's generated as soon as you start uploading videos. This page always lives on the same URL ('/videos'), making it easy to find for both admin and visitors. By adding '/videos' to the end of your platform URL, you can reach this page (once you have videos uploaded).

By default, videos presented on the library page are ordered by when they were added or updated, with those adjusted most recently appearing first. You can override this by setting a specific order number to a video, with higher numbers appearing first.

Standalone Video

Every time you upload a video, a unique page is generated on your platform to host it. This page features the title of the video, the video itself, and the description. Standalone pages make it easy to share the individual videos -- you can just share the URL to direct visitors to any one video!
