What is the Sub-Communities dropdown menu?

There is a unique feature you can activate only in Parent Community pages - which are the larger, Community page "buckets" or categories that you'll see at the top of your Manage>Communities page - and this feature is called Sub-Communities Navigation.

It allows you to feature Sub-Communities in a dropdown menu that sits on top of your header image, making it easier for your users to access the related pages.

Important: Please read this article to ensure you understand the difference between Parent and Sub-Communities and how they work before reading further!

To activate this menu, please follow the steps below and for this functionality to work, you must have Sub-Community pages within your Parent Community already. You can check if this is the case by finding your Parent Community in the Manage>Communities landing page and identifying whether or not the pages underneath the Parent Community have a dash ( - ) in front of the name of the Sub-Community page. If there is a dash ( - ) before the name of the page, that is a Sub-Community page.

Instructions for Activating this Menu

Step 1) Navigate to Manage>Communities and then use the search bar on the right side of the screen to search for one of the Parent Communities you see at the top.

Then hover over the Parent Community page that appears in the search results and click "Edit."

Step 2) Scroll down to the "Sub-Communities" section of the editing page of the Parent Community.

Step 3) Click on the "Navigation to Sub-Communities" dropdown and select the "Show dropdown in header" option.

Please note that you also have the option to select the "Show buttons above content" as well but it will have a different layout. Then, make sure to click "Update" in bottom left corner to save your changes.

Note: Your Parent Community page must have a header image uploaded already for the menu to properly display on the front end of the page.

Now, you're done and your new Sub-Community dropdown should be displaying on the front end of the Parent Community page!

If you don't have your Parent Community linked in your primary navigation menu, please read this article to learn how to take it live.
