How do I stop job posts (or other pages) from appearing in search engine results?

uConnect can prevent specific pages or whole sections of your platform, like job posts, from showing up in Google and other search engine results, while keeping them fully available to visitors on your platform. This setting is managed by the uConnect Support team, so just reach out and we’ll update it for you.

Overview

Your uConnect platform can control which pages search engines like Google are allowed to list in their search results. Many career centers use this to keep job posts out of public search results while those posts stay fully visible on their platform.

This setting is managed by the uConnect Support team. You can’t change it from your dashboard, but we’re happy to set it up or adjust it whenever you need. Just submit a support ticket and let us know what you’d like.

What can Support set up for you?

Our support team can:

  • Hide a whole section from search results, such as every job post, job category page, and job search page.
  • Hide specific pages while the rest of your platform stays searchable.
  • Keep certain pages searchable inside a hidden section. For example, your main jobs listing page can stay findable while the individual job posts are hidden.
  • Make specific pages searchable even if the rest of your platform is hidden from search engines.

What happens when a page is hidden from search engines?

  • Your page stays live. Students, alumni, and visitors can still view and use it on your platform. It just won’t be listed in search results.
  • Major search engines respect the setting. Google and other major search engines follow this instruction. uConnect can’t force every search engine to comply, though.
  • Already-indexed pages take time to disappear. Pages that already show up in search results will drop out the next time the search engine revisits them, which can take days or weeks. If you need a page removed urgently, read this article.
  • Content on other pages isn’t affected. If a job title or summary also appears on another page, like your home page or a community page, it can still show up in search results as part of that page. If you’d like those pages hidden too, just include them in your request.

Are there any limits?

Pages can’t be made searchable if your platform isn’t live yet. Until launch, your whole platform stays hidden from search engines no matter what.

How do I request a change?

Submit a support ticket here and include:

  1. The pages or sections you want hidden or made searchable. Copying and pasting the page links is the easiest way to do this.
  2. Any exceptions, such as “Hide all job posts, but keep the main jobs page searchable.”
  3. Your timing, if you have a deadline we should know about.

Our team will confirm once the change is in place!
