Did you recently upgrade to our new and improved Block editor?

That's great, we're so excited for you to leverage the new features and functionality available to you within this powerful new visual editor.

How to leverage the new block editor

One thing you may notice as you edit content that you'd previously created with our legacy editor is a message that says 'Convert to Blocks'. This will automatically transition the custom HTML you had created into the corresponding 'Block' within the block editor. This is a seamless way to transition your content over and ensure you can keep editing right from the new visual editing experience!

When 'Convert to Blocks' might not work

There are a few edge cases where the 'Convert to Blocks' functionality won't translate content. The further your content is from “regular text” like a basic paragraph or heading, the more likely you are to run into issues.

Here are a few hand-coded features will not convert:

  • The “vertical tabs” HTML code does not have a corresponding Block.

  • Hand-coded accordions may not convert automatically. We do have an accordion block, but it's common to see small errors from hand-coding them, and those tiny differences mean that they do not get automatically recognized. In general, we suggest recreating accordions with the new accordion block.

  • Any custom, hand-coded sections with many nested elements or inline styles; these may break entirely or have missing styles after conversion.

What to do if 'Convert to Blocks' doesn't work

Content created previously in the styles mentioned above will continue to work on the frontend even if they converted to Blocks, and you can continue to edit those code snippets by hand if you like by switching to the custom HTML editor!

If things don't convert smoothly, there's always the “undo” button. If the live page is open in a different tab, you can select text and paste it back into the Block Editor; sometimes this gets rid of hidden code. If not, pasting as plain text (Cmd-Shift-V or Ctrl-Shift-V) can help (though text formatting and links will need to be manually re-added).
