Video Walkthrough

Step 1: Access the Student Outcomes Section

  1. Log in to your uConnect dashboard.

  2. Navigate to the Student Outcomes section under Publish > Student Outcomes.

Step 2: View and Manage Current Data

  • We recommend always starting here in this tab as a best practice to begin updating or editing your current or new data sets.

  • Select the Current Data tab to view all previously uploaded outcomes data.

  • Download Existing Data:

    1. Click the Download All Existing Data button.

    2. This will generate a CSV file containing all selected class years.

    3. Use this file to consolidate data or add new entries, such as for the next class year.

  • Delete Specific Class Years:

    1. If needed, you can select the checkbox next to the class year you want to delete (e.g., "Class of 2020").

    2. Click the Delete button.

Pro Tip: We recommend downloading your existing data as a ‘master file’ prior to making any changes by either uploading new data or deleting data.

Step 3: Prepare Your Data for Upload

  1. Download the Template:

    • Under the Upload Data tab, download the provided CSV template. This template includes preset column names in the correct format.

    • If preferred, you can add custom columns to your dataset. These custom columns can then be used as custom filters under the ‘Filter Dropdowns’ tab!

  2. Follow the Guidelines:

    • Add your data to the downloaded template. Ensure your data aligns with the provided guidelines - NACE First Destination Guidelines; MBA CSEA Master’s/MBA Guidelines

    • Correct any formatting issues to match the required column headers and field specifications.

    • You no longer need to submit individual class year outcomes files and can include as many class year data sets into one file.

  3. Save your data as a CSV or Excel file:

    • You can save your file as a .cvs or .Excel file depending on your preference.

Pro Tip: Please refer to our guidelines as you attempt to fix the errors and warnings you receive on your Outcomes Data file. If you are using the First Destination data template, use these guidelines, or if you’re using the MBA/Specialty Master’s data template, use these guidelines.

Step 4: Upload Your Data

  1. Go to the Upload Data tab.

  2. Click Choose File to select your prepared CSV file.

  3. Click Upload to start the validation process.

Step 5: Handle Errors and Warnings

  • Understand Validation Messages:

    • Errors: Required fixes that must be made to proceed.

    • Warnings: Optional fixes that may affect data visualization but don’t prevent the upload.

  • Troubleshoot Issues:

    • Open your file to identify and fix any issues flagged by the system.

    • Examples:

      • If the Academic Division column uses an ampersand (&) instead of a slash (/), update the formatting to match the guidelines, using your downloadable template.

      • If you have any blank cells under a required column, such as Outcome Type, then you need to remove the row or add in a value for that cell.

    • Refer to this troubleshooting article to make sure your file meets these requirements!

    • Save your corrections and re-upload the file by selecting ‘Upload’ again.

Step 6: Finalize the Upload

  1. After uploading and fixing any errors or warnings, review the validation summary, which confirms that your new data will be imported.

  2. Note: Uploading new data for an existing class year (e.g., Class of 2020) will replace the old data for that year but will not affect other years.

  3. Click Import to finalize the upload. Then, you’re done!

Step 7: Verify Your Data

  • After importing, review the outcomes data to ensure everything appears as expected by clicking the “View” button at the top of the page.

  • Check the charts and compare them to your dataset for accuracy. Remember, you can now upload Outcomes Data as often as you would like, so if you do find something that isn’t looking quite right, you can update your file and upload again!

Summary

With these new features, you can:

  • Independently manage your outcomes data.

  • Make timely edits and uploads as needed.

  • Provide up-to-date and accurate data for students, faculty, employers, and prospective families.
