Every Outcomes Data Visualization module has dropdowns that allow a user to filter your outcomes data to target specific information by class year, academic program, major/field of study and so on. You also have the ability to edit the names of your default filters and also add custom filters to create a more tailored experience.

Check out the below video to get in an-depth look at how to edit and add new filters, and read on for written instructions!

Please Note: This feature is only available to uConnect users that have the Outcomes Data Visualization module enabled, so if you do not have it enabled in your platform, please reach out to your dedicated success manager!

Written Instructions:

  1. Log into your dashboard and navigate to Publish and then Student Outcomes.

  2. Click on the section called Filter Dropdowns. This section displays the default filters that are available as well as any added custom filters. You are able to have up to 8 filters.

You will see at least three default filters, which are required fields in the NACE First Destination Guidelines and MBA-Level Guidelines and collected with your ODV data submissions.

  3. To change the order of how these filters appear, click in the left corner of each of the filter boxes, where the two horizontal lines are located, and drag them to the order you prefer, and then click "Save Changes."

  4. To customize the names for your filters you have two options. You can change the standard name and the plural version of the same name. Update these to align with how you want your filter to appear on the front of your platform and hit 'Save.'

    1. The reason we ask for a plural version of the filter name is because we want to account for multiple options within the dropdown and the filter doesn't automatically adjust to the plural version. An example of this would be if you added a Custom Filter to showcase Country. If you only had U.S. country data, you wouldn't need a plural name for Country because there's only 1 country (U.S.) but in most cases, there are multiple countries represented within the data so you need to input the plural filter name, "Countries," so the dropdown functions accordingly.

5. To change whether or not a filter is visible to visitors to your Outcomes page, use the 'Visibility' dropdown to select whether a filter is 'Visible' or 'Hidden.'

Please Note: You can only add up to 8 custom filters on your Outcomes page!

6. Lastly, you can add Custom Filters based on your data set but remember, you can only add Custom Filters for actual data in your outcomes data sets. However, the great part is you can now add any unique data points that you collect outside of the First Destination Guidelines and MBA CSEA Guidelines.

For example, if you want to add a custom filter for internship participation, you can do so if you have included internship participation data in your submitted ODV file! All that you would need to do would be to ‘Add Filter’ from the ‘Student Outcomes’ area of your dashboard, select the internship participation option from your list of available columns, and you’ll have your new filter ready for users to leverage!

Essentially, any of the optional columns that you may have included when submitting data, such as Position Location, Employing Organization, Name of Institution, etc. can all be added as Custom Filters.

To add a new Custom Filter, just click the "Add Filter" button. Then, select from the dropdown options any of your available and not yet used columns. Once selected as a filter, you will have the option to title the filter, arrange the order of the filter and select the Visibility of the filter.

Please Note: You cannot add "Annual Salary" as a Custom Filter because there are too many values and too much variation within each salary number to create a positive user experience to filter by annual salary.

Also, you cannot create filters that only have one or no value. For example, if you try to add "Degree Level," but only have Bachelor's degree-level data, then you won't be able to add a filter because there is only one value so it's not filterable. Or, if you try and add a filter that includes blanks, null, or 0 values, it will be automatically removed.
