Why do my email links show links.gouconnect.com?

Links in your uConnect emails now pass through a secure uConnect tracking address. Here's what that means for you and your students, and how to keep links on your own domain if you prefer.

If you've hovered over a link in one of your uConnect emails recently, you may have noticed it starts with links.gouconnect.com. This is expected, and it's working exactly as intended!

What is a tracking link?

When your platform sends an email, each link passes through a tracking address before taking the recipient to their destination. That quick hop is what powers your open and click reporting, so you can see how students are engaging with your emails. It happens instantly, and recipients end up on the same page they clicked.

What changed?

As of October 1, 2026, all tracking links in uConnect emails use uConnect's secure address, links.gouconnect.com. Previously, some institutions' tracking links used an address on their own domain (e.g., uctlinks.yourschool.edu).

We made this change for security. Some older tracking links were served over plain HTTP, and Google Chrome is rolling out a default setting that shows a warning before opening non-secure (HTTP) pages. That warning could interrupt students and discourage them from continuing to the link. With every tracking link now using HTTPS, students go straight to the page they clicked.

What this means for you

  • There's nothing you need to do. Nothing changes about how you create or send emails.
  • Your emails deliver exactly as before. This change doesn't affect email deliverability.
  • Your reporting is unaffected. Open and click reporting work the same way.
  • The only visible difference is the address students see if they hover over a link.

How to keep tracking links on your institution's domain

Some institutions prefer tracking links to use their own domain. If that's important to you, we're happy to set it up:

  1. Submit a support ticket and select "DNS - New or Updates" from the ticket topic dropdown. Let us know you'd like tracking links on your own domain, and include your IT contact's name and email address.
  2. The uConnect team will send you three DNS records to share with your IT department.
  3. Once your IT team adds the records, let us know by replying to your support ticket.
  4. We'll verify the records and complete the setup. Tracking links in new emails will then use your institution's domain.

Good to know

  • Links in previously sent emails still work. Emails sent before this change will continue to take recipients to the right place.
  • Keep your existing DNS records in place. If your IT team previously added link branding records (e.g., uctlinks.yourschool.edu), please don't remove them. Emails sent before October 1, 2026 still rely on those records, and removing them would break those links.
  • New platforms are set up automatically. New uConnect platforms use links.gouconnect.com from their very first email, with no extra DNS setup required.
