Before Deleting a Community Page
If you’re planning to remove an old Community page under Manage > Communities, there are a few things you’ll want to check first. This is especially important if you’re replacing the page with a new Community page that contains more current information.
Once a Community page is deleted, you may need to recreate some of its previous configuration on the new page, so we recommend reviewing the following before deleting it.
1. Check your menus
Go to Customize > Menus and check whether the Community page you’re planning to delete is currently included in any of your site menus.
- If it is, remove the old Community page from the menu.
- If you’ve created a new Community page to replace it, you can update the menu to point to the new page instead.
This will help prevent users from seeing a menu link that leads to a page that no longer exists.
2. Check for subscribers
Before deleting the Community page, check whether there are currently any subscribers associated with it.
If subscribers are associated with the old page, consider how they should be handled before proceeding. Depending on your setup, you may need to:
- Update your SIS integration so those subscribers are assigned to the new Community page.
- Manually assign subscribers to the new Community page, if appropriate.
It’s important to make sure users don’t unintentionally lose access to the Community they should be subscribed to when the old page is removed.
3. Review the page's widgets and content structure
Take a look at the old Community page and make note of the widgets, sections, and content currently displayed on it.
If you’re replacing the page with a new Community page, you’ll want to recreate the relevant structure on the new page. Before deleting the old page, consider:
- Which widgets are currently displayed?
- What sections are included?
- What content is tagged to this Community?
- Are there any specific layouts or configurations you’ll want to recreate?
You should also retag any relevant content to the new Community page before deleting the old one.
Keeping a record of the old page's structure will make it easier to request that the appropriate widgets be added to the new Community page later.
4. Check for integrations feeding content into the page
Finally, check whether any integrations are currently feeding content into the Community page you’re planning to delete.
For example, the old Community page may have previously been configured to display Handshake jobs or events through an integration.
If the new Community page is replacing the old one, you’ll want to make sure those feeds are also configured for the new page. If you’re unsure how the integration is currently configured or need help setting it up on the new page, contact Support before deleting the old Community page so we can help review the setup.
