uConnect Workshop: New Admin User 101 Training

In this workshop, we walked through everything a new uConnect admin needs to get started — covering platform navigation, support resources, what you can and can't edit yourself, tagging best practices, and a 30/60/90 day roadmap for your first few months.

Workshop highlights:

  • uConnect is two things in one: a virtual career center platform (your content hub, reflecting whatever your institution has purchased) plus AI-powered Search that answers conversational student questions using outcomes data and labor market insights
  • Three go-to support resources: the Knowledge Base (how-to articles, screenshots, videos), the Support Agent chatbot (bottom-right corner of the KB, opens a ticket automatically if it can't help), and Support Tickets & Portal for tracking status. Learn more about uConnect support resources.
  • Training options to build your foundation: the self-paced uConnect Academy Admin Training (7 courses, ~2 hours total), Career Everywhere Community recordings, module-specific trainings (like Handshake), and weekly live Office Hours
  • Know what you can edit yourself vs. what needs a ticket: you can manage published content, community banners/descriptions, new sub-communities and content categories, subscriber lists, Block Editor content, and menus — but widgets, platform branding, technical configurations (SSO, DNS, URL, integrations), and new Community Groups require a support ticket
  • Manage vs. Publish is the key mental model: Manage = infrastructure and access (users, tagging, communities, categories); Publish = actual content (new pieces, custom pages). Learn more about Communities.
  • Tagging content has three essentials: audience/stakeholders (who it's for), content category (what type it is), and page/community (where it shows up) — all three matter for content to surface correctly. Learn more about tagging best practices
  • Menus are self-editable (primary, hero navigation, footer — found under Customize > Menus), while widgets are ticket-only — you can tag new content into an existing widget, but can't move, resize, retitle, add, or delete one yourself
  • The uConnect Bridge (Manage > uConnect Bridge) gives you a read-only view of active integrations like Handshake, Symplicity, and PeopleGrove — we manage setup on your behalf
  • A 30/60/90 day roadmap helps new admins prioritize: Days 1–30 focus on foundation (exploring the platform, completing Academy training, bookmarking support resources); Days 31–60 on building and customizing (auditing pages, practicing tagging, refreshing widgets); Days 61–90 on optimizing and engaging (activating email comms, reviewing analytics, setting goals with leadership)
