uConnect Workshop: AI Search 101

Workshop highlights:

• AI Search is conversational, not general-purpose — it only searches your platform's own content (not the open internet), never fabricates an answer, and will redirect students to contact your office when it doesn't know something
• It uses RAG (retrieval augmented generation) to scan your content for relevancy and respond in plain, conversational language — with clickable citations linking back to the original source
• Logged-in students get a richer experience than guests: unlimited searches, personalized results based on their profile and search history, and access to SSO-protected content
• Outcomes data now powers AI Search responses for all customers (not just Outcomes Data Visualization partners) — uploading your data lets AI Search answer major-specific outcomes questions with real specifics instead of general pathways
• Content readiness matters: AI Search can't read the contents of PDFs, external links, or embedded iframes (like Tableau/Power BI dashboards) — only titles and descriptions — so clear, specific naming and descriptions make content far more discoverable
• Use AI Search internally as a content audit tool — test your own top FAQs to catch outdated info, stale blogs, or gaps in your content
• Customization options (under Customize > Settings > AI Search) include preset prompts, button styling/placement, and color branding — plus a full marketing toolkit with banners, email templates, and Block Editor patterns to promote the tool on campus
