How to add Vertical Button Menu

To create and activate vertical or button menu widgets, you must first build your menu under the "Customize > Menus" section of your dashboard. Once built, submit a widget request to the support team with your preferred style and placement, noting that only top-level menu items will appear in these sidebar layouts.

uConnect supports Vertical and Button navigation styles as menu widgets in your sidebar. These give your community a clean list of links or button-style navigation — perfect for highlighting resources, key pages, or calls-to-action like "Apply Now" or "Schedule a Visit."

You can build these menus yourself under Customize > Menus in your dashboard. Once your menu is built, you'll just need to submit a widget ticket to our support team to activate it in your sidebar.

⚠️ A note on footer buttons: Button-style menus in the footer aren't recommended — button colors can clash with footer backgrounds and the layout can look compressed. If this is something your community needs, please submit a support ticket and our team can talk through options, which may include custom CSS work.

How to set up a vertical or button menu in the sidebar

Step 1: Build your menu

Head to Customize > Menus in your dashboard and create a new menu with the links/pages you'd like included.

  • Full steps are covered in Create a Menu and Take It Live, including a video walkthrough.
  • Important: Only top-level menu items will display in the sidebar. Both vertical and button styles are flattened to one level, so any nested/dropdown items won't appear.

Step 2: Submit a widget ticket

Once your menu is created, submit a widget request to our support team to activate it. Let us know:

  • Which menu you'd like added
  • Which sidebar area (Community Inner Pages or Front Page/Newsfeed)
  • Which style you'd like — Vertical or Button

Step 3: We take it live

Our team will add the Menu widget to your requested sidebar area, connect it to your menu, and set the navigation style. We'll confirm with you once it's live.

Step 4: Managing your menu going forward

Since you built the menu yourself, you can go back into Customize > Menus anytime to add, remove, or rename links — changes will reflect automatically in the widget once saved.

Styling

Sidebar vertical and button menus currently use uConnect's default link and button colors. There aren't dedicated Customizer styling options for sidebar menus at this time (unlike footer vertical menus, which have styling options under Customizer > Footer > Vertical Menus). If you're looking for custom colors, spacing, or fonts, this would need custom CSS or a product feature request — reach out to our support team and we're happy to help scope it.
