[Publish Content](https://support.gouconnect.com/articles/publish-content) # Edit a page URL (slug) A **URL slug** is the exact address of a specific page or post on your site. uConnect automatically assigns a **URL slug** for each new page, post, or collection item based on its title. For example, if you create a custom page titled "Science and Research," its automatic **URL slug** is [http://www.sitename.universityname.edu/science-and-research](https://www.sitename.universityname.edu/science-and-research). For marketing purposes, you may wish to edit a slug by shortening it or bringing it into alignment with similar pages. For example, the slug of the Marketing Consulting Club could be shortened from /marketing-consulting-club to /mcc. You can edit slugs for both Communities and Custom Pages.  **Please Note:** Some Community page URL slugs **cannot** be edited, including the ***Student***, ***Employer***, ***Alumni***, and ***Faculty & Staff*** communities (which may appear under a different name, such as "Undergraduate Students"). These slugs are tied to specific user roles in uConnect and control permissions — such as who can access the admin panel and who can edit posts. Because uConnect's system expects these exact slug values, they cannot be changed. **In these cases, we recommend changing the page's Name or title instead.** **Important:** Changing a URL slug will break any existing links or bookmarks pointing to the old URL. uConnect does not automatically create a redirect from the old slug to the new one, so be sure to update any internal or external links after making this change. Locate the page that you wish to edit 3. Click **Quick** **Edit** 4. Rename the **slug** as desired (remember to type the slug in lowercase letters and use hyphens in place of spaces) 5.
