What are button widgets?

Button widgets are a powerful way to direct traffic to key resources — such as job boards, advising appointment links, or resume guides — directly from your uConnect platform. This article explains what button widgets are, where they can appear, and how to request one.

Button widgets give users one-click access to a specific link or resource. They are most commonly placed in the header of your platform’s homepage. Unlike other widgets, header button widgets can be configured to appear on every page of your platform, or limited to select pages. See the image below for an example of a header button widget.

Button widgets are commonly used to include a URL that links to a special resource, for example, a specific institution’s job board. Incorporating buttons into your uConnect platform is important because it increases the visibility of content that plays a crucial role in career advancement (like your job board, mentor platform, etc). The example in the next screenshot below shows how one client chose to add a button linking to their institutional job board.

Button widgets can also highlight other valuable resources, such as resume-building guides and advising appointment links — making it easier for students and your broader community to find the support they need.

Sidebar button widgets can be added to a specific Community page. They can be configured to display on a single page or across multiple pages, depending on your preference.

To enable or customize button widgets on your platform, submit a support request. In your request, include the desired button label, the destination URL, preferred placement (header or sidebar), and which pages it should appear on.
